Police mark women’s month
CEBU, Philippines - Policewomen gathered yesterday at the Police Regional Office-7 for the opening of the Women’s Month.
The celebration started at 6 a.m. with a parade and zumba at the regional police headquarters’ grounds. It was followed by the selection of Miss Sportsfest wherein Police Officer 1 Christy Sampuang, of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, won.
PRO-7 director Chief Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan told the men and women of the Philippine national Police in Central Visayas that regardless of gender all police personnel shared the same responsibility.
He said what policemen can do the policewomen can also do it. Meanwhile, the Cebu City Women’s and Family Affairs Commission will hold a parade on March 8 at 6 a.m. to open the International Women’s Day.
The parade will start in front of the Department of Health and will end at Plaza Sugbo.
Executive Director Olani Marie Bongato has already informed the City Transportation Office to assist them in the traffic because they are expecting at least 1,000 women to participate.
Olani is asking for a permit from CCTO executive director Rey Gealon to hold the parade. Gealon has advised the public in advance to take the alternative roads during the parade. — (FREEMAN)
