Against gay marriage: Man burns Nikes in support of Pacman

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A video showing a man burning several pairs of Nike shoes has gone viral on Facebook.

The said video was allegedly taken at the Cebu Coliseum shows a man burning a small pile of shoes in support of Manny Pacquiao who received flak after his statement against the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender community.

However, the man said his actions are not against the LGBT community but against Nike and against gay marriage.

The video, which ran for two minutes and 49 seconds, was titled “Nike shoes sinunog para suportahan si Manny Pacquiao.”

“Burn the Nike sole for my soul,” the man says before setting the shoes on fire.

“We support Manny Pacquiao!” the crowd around him cheers a while later.

The man in the video makes it a point they do not hate the LGBT community per se.

“Again, we don’t hate the LGBT people. We hate their agenda. The Nike shoes dropped out their support bilang endorser. Today, in response, without hatred, we show we burn these shoes to show our support sa gay marriage na hindi dapat tama. But then again we love all the gays, all the lesbians but we don’t like their agenda,” he said.

He added the burning of shoes only shows that Christians can be loud and will not remain silent while people laugh at them.  He also thanked people who believe that the Philippines can be saved from bad morality.

According to radio dyLA, the owner of the Cebu Coliseum, Atty. Augosto Go, disowned the alleged burning of the shoes saying he was not aware of the protest. Go also said he thinks the activity was conducted outside the coliseum and not inside.

He added that he would not tolerate such activities in the coliseum. While he said the stadium is for entertainment, basketball, boxing and even rallies, it cannot be used for hate demonstrations.

The video also encouraged others to film themselves burning their Nikes in support of Pacquiao. As of last night it has had 103,261 views with 3,680 shares and 3,500 reactions from Facebook users.  (FREEMAN)
