CEBU, Philippines - A man shot dead his neighbor after the latter stabbed him following a heated argument  past 6 p.m. Sunday in Barangay Tungkop, Minglanilla town.

Andres Cabusas, 42, was declared dead on arrival at the Minglanilla District Hospital after he suffered two gunshot wounds.

His neighbor, Alexander Lopez, 54, who confessed to shooting Cabusas, later surrendered at the police station.

Police Officer 2 Nikki Carlo Plarisan, desk officer, said Cabusas, who was allegedly drunk, had a heated argument with another man, whom he was going after in an alley.

But Cabusas instead met Lopez and an argument between them ensued.

Cabusas then allegedly stabbed Lopez, according to witnesses.

Lopez reportedly tried to evade Cabusas, but eventually pulled out his revolver and fired at the victim twice, hitting him in the chest and back.

The bullet hit the victim’s chest and exited through his back, said Plarisan.

“Ang biktima naay dala nga kutsilyo nagkasugat sa suspek nagkalalis sila gidunggab siya sa biktima, mao to ni-retaliate siya,” Plarisan said.

The victim was rushed to the Minglanilla District Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

After the incident, Cabusas surrendered to the police station and turned over his gun to the police officers.

The police took his cal. 357 revolver and upon examination, found out that it had two empty shells and two live ammunition inside the cartridge.

Plarisan said the family of the victim went to the police station and told investigators that they intend to press charges against the suspect.

Plarisan added that Lopez will be charged with homicide, violation of the Comprehensive Firearm and Ammunition Regulation Act and of the Comelec gun ban.   (FREEMAN)
