Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - For allegedly beating up his younger sister, a 23-year-old resident of Barangay Pardo, Cebu City is facing child abuse charges before the court.

Assistant City Prosecutor Fatima Asjali-Maadil found probable cause and held the suspect for trial.

“…accused, with deliberate intent, did then and there inflict bodily harm upon her minor sibling, 15-year-old, by pointing a finger on her, box, choke, and bang her head to the bamboo fence, fell to the ground and was wounded with a broken computer glass,” read the document.

Maadil recommended P80,000 bail for the suspect’s temporary release while the case is pending in court.

The FREEMAN withheld the names of the siblings due to the nature of the case.

In her sworn statement, the 15-year-old girl accused her elder brother of inflicting physical injuries to her on January 15 this year, near midnight.

She alleged that her brother pointed his finger on her, choked and boxed her, and even banged her head to the fence. Her brother also allegedly threw a basin at her.

“Wala pa gyud siya nakuntento, gilabay ko niya’g planggana nga dako, naigo ang akong dughan. Pagpanukod nako, nasamad ang akoang tudlo sa bato. Giuwang na mi sa akoang tiyo, wala gihapon siya nipatuo,” the girl said.

She added that her brother even threatened to kill her and their uncle.

The incident was not the first time, the minor said, saying that since she was still little, her brother had been battering her.  (FREEMAN)
