9-year-old girl stabbed dead by drunken father

CEBU, Philippines - A nine-year-old girl died after she was stabbed by her drunk father while trying to intervene in her parents’ fight Friday in Barangay Maloray, Dalaguete town.

Kimberly Tangpos, a Grade 3 student, was declared dead while being transported to a hospital in Cebu City.

She was allegedly stabbed by her father, 36-year-old Marcelo Tangpos, who is now detained at the police station.

According to Police Officer 2 Reynaldo Vidas of Dalaguete Police Station, Marcelo came home on Friday night drunk that caused an argument between him and his wife Bernadette.

While they were arguing, Marcelo allegedly took a scythe at the kitchen and would supposedly stab his wife.

Their daughter saw him with the scythe and approaching her mother, prompting the girl to intervene.

However, instead of being pacified, Marcelo stabbed his daughter several times to her chest.

Bernadette rescued their child and rushed her to Dr. Ildefonso Alcantara Memorial Hospital.

Because of the child’s severe injuries, the attending physician referred them to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

But on their way to the Cebu City hospital, the girl’s condition worsened, prompting the accompanying nurse to decide to stop at Isidro C. Kintanar Memorial Hospital in Argao.

Despite the doctor’s efforts in trying to revive the girl, she succumbed to the injuries and died.

Vidas said they went to the family’s residence in the mountain barangay of Ma-loray after learning about the incident and found the father inside the house.

The suspect peacefully surrendered to the police and was escorted to the police station.

Vidas said the suspect later got sober but did not even show any sign of remorse for what he did.

“Naulian na man ‘ni, way pagmahay nakit-an namo ani niya,” Vidas said.

The suspect will be charged for parricide, added Vidas.  (FREEMAN)
