Boy dies after swallowing fish

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - An 11-year-old boy met his untimely death after he accidentally swallowed and choked on a live fish that he caught supposedly for his family.

The incident happened at past 4 p.m. Sunday in Barangay Bogo, Maria town in Siquijor while the boy went fishing with his friends.

The boy, Jeck Ian Carillo, was rushed to the Maria Health Center but did not make it there alive.

PO2 Jay Duhaylungsod of the Siquijor Provincial Police Office said the boy and his friends were out at sea fishing with the use of a traditional spear when the boy reportedly caught a lizard fish. He then bit its head to kill it but swallowed it accidentally and choked.

“Namana ni siya… naay kauban mga bata pagkakuha niya, iya untang paakon natulon noon niya,” Duhaylungsod said.

His friends reportedly tried to pull the fish out of Carillo’s mouth but to no avail, thus, they rushed him to the health center.

Duhaylungsod said the boy only wanted to help his parents.

“Nitabang ra gyud siya sa iyang ginikanan, Sir. Namana intawn para panud-an,” he said. — /JMO (FREEMAN)
