Cash aid given to 10 City Brgys

Jean Marvette A. Demecillo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - At least 10 barangays in Cebu City received their P5 million cash aid from the city government yesterday.

Mayor Michael Rama, Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella and other members of Team Rama handed the checks personally to barangays Pit-os, Pulangbato, Binaliw, Paril, Budlaan, Santa Cruz, Pari-an, Luz, San Jose, and Cogon Pardo.

Officials will continue to distribute the cash aid to barangays San Antonio, Pahina Central, Agsungot, Bacayan, Bonbon, Buot, Taptap, Sinsin, Pung-ol Sibugay, and Pahina San Nicolas.

City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas said the cash assistance will be threshed out from the P800 million capital outlay for this year’s annual budget.

She said the other barangays have to liquidate the previous year’s financial assistance before they could receive their share now.

Rama asked the barangay officials to process the liquidation so that they could avail the aid.

“We will compel the other barangays to process their documents faster and completely kay basin mangita man ang mga tao nganong gipanagaan man to unya ang uban wala,” he said, adding that the liquidation should be done before the year ends since the aid will not be given to them anymore next year.

He said the distribution of the aid is a “sacrifice but rewarding and fulfilling for the people.”

Rama said he will continue the distribution in the coming weekends.

The amount of aid differs, as there are barangays that will receive P10 million, P8 million, P6 million, and P5 million.

Rama said, however, that the amount is based on the size and needs of the barangay and no politics is involved in coming up with the figure.

He said the aid should be used for the social services and for improvement of infrastructures. —/JMO (FREEMAN)
