Awareness of Mega Cebu projects reflected in survey

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - From “zero visibility” in 2013, a recent household interview survey of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) showed almost 100 percent awareness of the Mega Cebu Vision 2050.

Caroline Ballesteros, Mega Cebu communication and stakeholder relationship manager, said the increase in awareness is being attributed to the engagement and events stakeholders have been implemented to raise the awareness.

In 2014, a survey showed seven percent awareness on face-to-face interview and 73 percent online.

During the launch of the Mega Cebu Month yesterday, Ballesteros said the survey conducted from May to June showed an increase to 43 percent on face-to-face interview and 91 percent online.

There were 1,986 respondents.

This year’s theme of the Mega Cebu Month is “Mega Cebu, Pwede Kaayo” with two sub-campaigns dubbed “Limpyo Cebu, Pwede Kaayo” and “Tuman Cebu, Pwede Kaayo.”

The campaigns are designed to further drive public awareness and emphasize that simple acts such as cleaning the environment, segregating trash, volunteering for a cause, and observing traffic rules, can contribute to making Mega Cebu happen.

The Department of Education has issued a memorandum to all elementary and high schools in Cebu Province to participate in the campaign.

“We aim to have everyone in Cebu Province join because Mega Cebu is about us and for all of us,” Ballesteros said.

Mega Cebu envisions a wholesome, advanced, vibrant, equitable and sustainable (W.A.V.E.S.) Cebu by 2050. It promotes long-term and collaborative planning and action towards a more sustainable city-region in Cebu. — (FREEMAN)
