CEBU, Philippines - Two of the 146 police recruits undergoing six months training at the Philippine Public Safety College-Regional Training School-7 in Consolacion have resigned.

Lynic John Openia, 22, of Bohol and Jake Grampon, 23, of Negros Oriental, backed out from the training last week.

Superintendent Edwelito Rosales, RTS-7 director, said that Openia escaped from the training school last Saturday through the back gate. The training school officials found out that he went home in Bohol without permission from his training officer.

Openia’s uncle, who is also a police officer, escorted him back to the camp. However, Openia decided to resign because he could not take the stress of the training.

Meanwhile, Grampon also tendered his resignation after being hospitalized last Sunday because of dehydration. The training director immediately dispels suspicions that the two trainees backed out because of hazing inside the training school.

Rosales assured that no hazing inside the training school since it is illegal and prohibited. He even showed the medical certificate of the two recruits showing negative injuries.

Police Regional Office-7 director Chief Superintendent Prudencio Tom Bañas was disappointed by the decision of the two recruits.

“Sayang ‘yung dalawang slots nila. Makatulong na sana ng dalawang pamilya,” said Bañas.

“Kung hindi naman desidido, huwag nila i-deprive ang iba sa slots. Sayang naman,” he added.

Bañas said he will check if they can still have two other applicants to replace Openia and Grampon. —(FREEMAN)
