CEBU, Philippines -  At least 42 policemen from the regional headquarters will be deployed to Bantayan Island starting today in anticipation of both local and foreign tourists that will flock the island for the remainder of the week.

This was confirmed by Police Supt. Renato Dugan, public information officer of the Police Regional Office – 7 and overall supervisor for Bantayan Island.

Meanwhile, the director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, said at least 30 police personnel have helped secure the Cebu South Bus Terminal since Monday. They work in three shifts.

Gillamac said a total of 150 personnel have been deployed in wharfs, sea ports, and bus terminals for the Holy Week. Police assistance desks have also been put up in these areas.

“Naa na expected magkagubot especially sa mga mosakay sa bus going back and forth and barko,” he said.

Gillamac said operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics have also been deployed in their respective districts, especially in Santander town in the south, one of the major entry points for passengers to and from Negros.

“So those people who will travel in Negros Oriental, expect nga naa’y magbantay sa kadalanan especially sa wharf,” he said.

Gillamac reminded the public to keep their houses locked and unplug all appliances if they intend to stay away for a long time for a vacation, for example. —(FREEMAN)
