CEBU, Philippines - Two suspected thieves were arrested Friday night after the police recovered in their possession items stolen from three delegates of the Central Visayas Regional Athletics Association meet in Balamban town.

Wilfredo “Jun-jun” Abarquez Jr., 34, of Tuburan town and Norman Pautan, 35, of Aliwanay, Balamban, are now detained at the Balamban Police Station.

Initial investigation revealed that Earle Alcover, teacher at Balamban Central School, reported that Abarquez allegedly stole sports equipment and cash worth P27,000.

The stolen items include a tennis racket, two pairs of shoes, two back packs, a mobile phone and cash worth P1,700.

Senior Police Officer 2 Jose Ranielito Villarino, investigator, said that Abarquez was arrested in Tuburan while Pautan was arrested in his house in Barangay Aliwanay, Balamban.

Villarino said that the students noticed that some of their things were missing in the room and the last one to come out of the room was Abarquez.

The investigator said that Abarquez went to Balamban to accompany his wife who is a coach. It was Abarquez who told the police that he did not do it alone. He led the police to Pautan’s house where he was arrested.

“Nabantayan sa estudiyante nga nawala ang gamit, ang last nga nigawas ang si Abarquez unya nasubay namo ni, nadakpan og apil si Pautan nga iyang gipabaligya, sila rang kuyog suyop,” Villarino said.
