Glitch prevents LTO offices from issuing driver’s license

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Land Transportation Office-7 regional director Arnel Tancinco has said that their extension offices in Lapu-Lapu City and Argao cannot issue permanent driver’s licenses yet owing to lack of identification card laminators.

“Until now, these offi-ces di pa gyud makahatag og permanent driver’s license kay wa silay ID laminators,” Tancinco informed.

He added that the ID supplies that arrived last week for their Cebu City office were only 1,000 pie-ces, which would mean that the office may also run out of ID cards.

“Pero ang gi-issue namo nga temporary ID is valid until a permanent one would be made available,” Tancinco clarified, though.

Technically, Tancinco said, a temporary driver’s license ID has an expiration date, but since they do not know yet when the additional supply would arrive, the temporary ones would suffice for the meantime.

The LTO-7 in Cebu City has around 200 daily applicants for the issuance of a professional and non-professional driver’s license.

The lack of permanent driver’s licenses is due to some problem between the supply contractor of the IDs and the LTO Central Office.

It can be recalled that some time in 2012, the issuance of  driver’s  licenses were also suspended due to a glitch caused by the supply contractor’s computer system upgrade.

Meanwhile, Tancinco clarified that they did not conduct any apprehensions among public utility vehicles in Lapu-Lapu City last Friday.

“Wa man mi nanakop. We were manning the traffic kay pista sa Lapu-Lapu at that time,” he said.

Romeo Armamento, national vice president of the National Confederation of Transportworkers Union said that some of their members in Lapu-Lapu City complained to him that LTO traffic personnel flagged down their units for violations on their vehicle accessories.

“Gipanglangkat ang mga suga sa sakyanan kay di daw maoy standard nga suga. Akoa ra unya pakig-istoryahan ang LTO og ngano ni,” Armamento added. (FREEMAN)
