Transport groups want fines gone
CEBU, Philippines - The National Confederation of Transportworkers’ Union in Cebu is calling on the City Integrated Traffic Operations Management to write-off the uncollected traffic fines of its members.
Romeo Armamento, national vice president of NCTU, said they have already agreed during a dialogue with Vice Mayor Edardo Labella for the condonation of fines.
Armamento said that Labella promised to come up with a Council resolution on the matter.
“Ang amoa lang unta nga mintras wa pa na ang maong resolution, nga ang CITOM di maningil sa mga pending traffic fines sa mga public utility vehicle drivers inig lukat nila og I.D. nga gikan sa CITOM,” said Armamento.
Based on the report of the Commission on Audit, the city government has estimated uncollected fines amounting to P4 million.
Armamento said that under the Cebu City Ordinance 1605, a transport driver is not required to get an identification card from CITOM.
Armamento said that based on the said ordinance, any valid identification card will do.
But, CITOM executive director Rafael Yap said that the display of CITOM I.D. is required under the ordinance. — FPL (FREEMAN)
