Boy drowns in puddle on road in Aloguinsan

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A one-year-old boy has drowned in a puddle created from rainwater collected in a pothole on the road in Aloguinsan town last Friday.

The boy, Kent Narvasa, was brought by his mother who was selling merchandise during the town’s fiesta. But the mother, Evelyn Narvasa, 27, of Barangay Poblacion, Asturias, got too busy that she forgot about her son.

Police Officer 2 Recelieto Kilaton said the boy apparently crawled on the road without the mother noticing him until he got into the puddle and drowned.

“Ang bata naghinay-hinay practice og lakaw, wa mabantayi sa inahan basin sa kadaghan sa namalit wa na kaalinggat sa iyang anak, didto na nabantayan wa nay kinabuhi ang bata sa lim-aw,” Kilaton said.

The boy was rushed to Pinamungajan District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The attending physician declared that the boy died due to asphyxia by drowning.

The police said there are plenty of puddles from rain water collected in the potholes on the road.

“Mahimo gyud nang lim-aw sir kung mag-uwan kay igo ra man gud na nga gitambakan og anopog og giso,” Kilaton told The Freeman. (FREEMAN)
