Septuagenarian shot dead as boy escapes harm

CEBU, Philippines - A 68-year-old construction worker was shot dead by his neighbor last Sunday night Pinamungajan town but the child he was with at that time managed to hide to safety. 

Teofilo Paculto, a resident in Brgy. Tunod, Pinamungajan, died on the spot after the suspect shot him in the head.

PO2 Tajab Ariel, desk officer of the Pinamungajan Polic, said they received the report at 4 a.m. yesterday after the child who was accompanying the victim that time told his father, Leonardo Baron.

Ariel said Paculto was at Baron’s house for dinner and even reportedly took a shot of coconut wine.He then went home with the son of his friend at around 10 p.m. when they heard gunfire and ran hurriedly towards a hut.

Based on the child’s account, he was able to run to a grassy area when he and Paculto heard gunshots.

When the victim who was lying on the ground turned around to see the suspect, the suspect as reportedly shot on his head, which led to his death.

There was no empty shell or slug recovered at the crime scene. 

The police are still conducting a follow-up investigation on the incident. Ariel said they are looking at the angle of the suspect bearing a personal grudge against the victim. (FREEMAN)
