LTO, parties to meet on license plate rule
CEBU, Philippines - The Land Transportation Office and several interested parties are meeting today to discuss the final guidelines and implementation of the “no plate, no travel” policy.
This is to iron out several concerns that are affecting the campaign.
“As of now, maglisod gyod mi pagdakop sa mga kadtong wa pay vehicle plates kay wa pa namo na-distribute ang tanan (We are hesitant to make arrests because we have not yet completed the distribution of new license plates,” said LTO-7 Director Arnel Tancinco.
He said that around 1,000 vehicle plates for vehicles that were registered on February 14 or earlier are still in their office.
“Daghang factors ngano wa makuha ang mga vehicle plates, especially kay naay bayranan og mga additional nga bayranan on the part sa mga dealers,” said Tancinco.
To settle these concerns, LTO officials, vehicle manufacturers, suppliers and importers will discuss the problem today.
It can be recalled that last July 2, Tancinco issued a directive to all operation divisions that all motor vehicles without plate numbers will be apprehended.
The said directive was in line with the recently implemented Joint Administrative Order #2014-01 (Revised schedule of fines and penalties for violations of laws, rules and regulations governing land transportation) of the Department of Transportation and Communication, t Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board, and the LTO.
Vehicle plates fee ranges from P800 to less than P2,000, depending on the plate number ending and the type of vehicle.
Tancinco added that he expects more vehicle plates to arrive today for those vehicles registered last February 17 and onwards.— (FREEMAN)
