PIB probes 7 cops for drugs

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Intelligence Branch of Cebu Provincial Police Office now has the names of at least seven police officers who are allegedly protecting illegal drug activities in Talisay City, said Superintendent Carmelo Dayon.

Dayon, chief of Talisay City Police Station, disclosed that the said cops, one of them already retired from the service, were formerly assigned in Talisay but have been transferred to other municipalities. Their illegal activities in the city, however, reportedly continue.

“Nikiat na sila diha kay dunay gisaligan, pero ang names naa na sa PIB for validation,” Dayon told reporters.

Illegal drug activities in Talisay City are often noted in Barangay Tangke, but according to the police chief, illegal drugs also affect the rest of the city.

“Nag-change na gani ko karon og intelligence operatives in getting information for the operation in the future while daghan og drug enforcement unit ang nakatutok ngari,” said Dayon.

Superintendent Rodulfo Albotra, who heads PIB, said they are yet to verify the names he received from Dayon through text message.

“There are no supporting documents given to support the allegation, meaning, raw pa kaayo ang information bisan tuod dunay names gihatag,” said Albotra, adding that they also have parameters before making verifications.

Early this month, at least 38 packs of shabu amounting to more than half a million pesos, drug paraphernalia and illegal gambling machines were seized by police in Barangay Tangke.

This has prompted CPPO director Noel Gillamac to question Dayon’s campaign against illegal drugs and warn him to be relieved from his post should there be no changes in his anti-drug campaign in the next few months. — (FREEMAN)
