Samsam to JVR: Study water park proposal in Mananga River

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu first district Rep. Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas has advised Talisay City Mayor Johnny V. de los Reyes to carefully study his proposal to make Mananga River a water park with recreational activities.

Gullas, whose district includes Talisay City, said a thorough study is needed to ensure that the plan would not endanger the public.

“Maybe there should be a study about it, if it is feasible, why not?” said Gullas.

According to Gullas, de los Reyes should take into consideration that the river overflows during heavy rains. Gullas said that public safety should be the prime consideration before embarking on such project.

De los Reyes, who owns a nature park in Barangay Gaas, Balamban, earlier said that he is thinking of making something out of the Mananga River for the city residents and tourists to enjoy.

De los Reyes said he may put up water rides, a zip line adventure, and other thrilling activities in the river. The neophyte mayor said he may pattern Mananga River’s development after his park in Balamban.

Despite the several controversies hounding the administration of de los Reyes, Gullas believes that the first termer mayor was doing his best for the city.

“Sometimes we have differences in opinion. But I really think that Mayor JVR is doing his best for the City of Talisay. Lain-lain lang gyud among panlantaw (for Talisay),” the young congressman said.

De los Reyes defeated Gullas’ grandfather, former Rep. Eduardo Gullas, in the May 2013 elections. – (FREEMAN)
