‘Public beach’ eyed at the back of MSS

Kristine B. Quintas, FPL - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is toying with the idea of making the coastline at the back of Malacañang sa Sugbo as ‘public beach’ to increase the market value of the South Road Properties.

Rama has directed the Cebu City Bantay Dagat Commission to check the area if it is viable and safe for public use.

“It has very good scenery. It would add up with beautiful coastal landscape. I know it is not allowed until it will be verified. Kun pwede diay ngano’ng ato ihikaw man,” Rama said, stressing that it would not affect the marketability of the South Road Properties.

On the contrary, Rama believes it would even increase the value of the property as it would make an attraction to tourists.

â€œThat was a discovery. I know naay mangaligo diha and that scenery was really something. Also in tune with my and the former mayor’s waterfront orientation,” he added.

Rama said the area would also be a good sight to entice painters and photographers to craft magnificent paintings and photographs.

Aside from the area at the back of Malacañang sa Sugbo, Rama has also asked the Bantay Dagat Commission to check and look into the Kawit Island.

The city government has been planning to put up an artificial white sand beach at the area years ago costing P30.4 million but the idea was not realized because the contractor refused to supply dolomite sand and pebble mixture.

â€œI think the area should be checked first kay kantilado man gud. Also, this will be a challenge sa Bantay dagat and local government units to keep the coastal beautiful,” Rama said.

The artificial white sand beach reportedly would increase the market value of SRP and is aimed at keeping the tourists from having to travel miles just to get to a really nice white sand beach resort.  (FREEMAN)
