Ports, terminals orderly for Holy Week travelers
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu ports, bus terminals and airport have remained normal and generally peaceful as Holy Week travelers returned from their vacation. Philippine Coast Guard-Central Visayas commander William Melad only reported one motorized banca, Eagle 2, which engine broke down the other day, off Sagasa Islet in Buen Unido, Bohol.
The said motor banca was carrying 73 passengers enroute to Pitogo, Bohol to the port of Looc in Mandaue City.
Melad said motor banca Eagle 5 was dispatched to rescue and safely docked at the said port.
Melad said no report of overloading of sea vessels during the occasion.
At the Cebu South Bus Terminal, Julieto Flores, spokesperson of the Cebu Provincial Bus Operators Association said everything was normal and orderly.
“Normal ra man gyud ni nga basta ning-uli na human sa Holy Week, mudaghan gyud ang pasahero†said Flores.
There were enough of buses and mini-buses that carried passengers to back to Cebu City. At the Mactan Cebu International Airport, General Manager Nigel Paul Villarete said the entire celebration was generally peaceful.
Arrivals of passengers at the airport have remained normal since yesterday afternoon.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-7 and the Land Transportation Office-7 have inspected buses since Tuesday in line with the Oplan Exodus Ligtas Biyahe 2014 of the Department of Transportation and Communications, to ensure that buses plying in different routes in the province are road worthy and are not operating illegally.
