What Sets Sinulog 2018 Apart

CEBU, Philippines — This year’s Sinulog celebration has certain things that make it quite different from Sinulogs past.

More parade contingents. Devotees will have to expect a longer parade route compared to last year, as more contingents are expected to join including out-of-towners like Panglao, Kidapawan, Samar, Dumaguete, Pamplona Negros, Abuyog, Catbalogan and Bais City Negros.

Entertainment Ban. Sinulog entertainment this year is noticeably leaner than in previous years. The city government strictly regulates the activities of establishments and vendors on the day of the festival. Activities which entail using like Concerts, street parties and similar events are banned in certain areas. Even the use of loud speakers along the parade route is prohibited.

Liquor Ban. The selling and drinking of intoxicating liquor are also not allowed within the 300-meter radius of the Sinulog parade route from 6 a.m. today to 6 a.m. the following day. This is to ensure no unruly behavior by drunks, which had been a problem in the previous years.

Clearly, this year’s Sinulog is more regulated, intended to uphold peace and order – and more fun – in the “biggest fiesta of the Philippines!”
