A new Sinulog app

A new Sinulog mobile application was launched on Friday, January 12.

Named “Sinulog 2018” and developed by STARTECHUP, the application highlights the Sinulog 2018 Festival’s schedule of activities, links to the official Sinulog online ticket store, Sinulog parade and procession routes, scheduled activities and more.

The app also provides users with information on the participating contingents of this year’s Sinulog Grand Parade and highlights where to party, where to have fun and where to eat guides. It features a dedicated section on the “Sinulog Festival Queen” as well.

Available in versions for Android and iOS, the app can be downloaded through their respective online distribution pages.

Facebook on “meaningful social interactions” over “relevant content”

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg revealed last week that a refresh on the social network’s News Feed algorithm is underway. The refresh is geared towards “making sure that time spent on Facebook is time well spent.”

In a post revealing the upcoming changes, Zuckerberg explained that the new algorithm will de-prioritize content that falls into the “public” category over posts made by a Facebook member’s family and friends. Examples of “public” content would include photos, videos and posts by businesses, advertising and media-oriented entities.

The CEO explained that “public” content has the tendency to “crowd out” posts by a Facebook user’s friends and family on News Feeds, hence the reason for the change.

The upcoming change is set on prioritizing “meaningful social interactions” over “relevant content” – to strengthen “meaningful interactions” in Facebook by making content posted by friends and family appear on top of posts that fall in “viral news” vein and the like.

Reactions over Zuckerberg’s post have been mixed. Some praised him for the new direction he’s leading his organization towards. Others voiced cynical views on how the new algorithm would actually pan out. Overall though, the revelation has generally been well-received.

Zuckerberg did not specify a date when the changes would take effect, only that he pledges to see it through in 2018.

An Android smartphone with a built-in projector

An Android-driven smartphone recently got techies and tech pundits talking about a novel feature: it comes with a built-in projector.

Named “Movi,” the device appears no different from the regular smartphone and can pretty much do whatever the Android-driven smartdevice can do.

It’s different from other smartphones as it comes with a built-in picto projector that can flash images at 720p resolutions covering around a 200-inch area.

The device has sparked online discussions as to who exactly is leading the “innovation trend” in the consumer electronics arena – raising questions as to how relevant current manufacturers and brands will be should they keep on producing devices that don’t really bring in anything new.

Currently available in overseas markets, the smartphone has yet to cause changes in the overall gadgets-and-electronics scene. As things are though, it has inspired a number of electronic consumers to keep an eye out for novel products that actually carry features that work for them.
