Cebuano on centerstage

CEBU, Philippines — Romulo “Mulong” Galicano is one of Cebu’s famed portrait and landscape artists.

Born in Carcar City and mentored by the “Dean of Cebuano Painters” Martino Abellana, Galicano is known for detail-rich paintings rendered in oil, backed by his philosophical approach in rendering his compositions’ sense of scale, perspective and balance.

A recipient of numerous awards, Galicano is affiliated with the Portrait Society of America, the American Society of Portrait Artists and the Dimasalang Art Group Taza de Oro, among many others. He is currently the chairman of the Portrait Artists Society of the Philippines Inc., a Cebu-headquartered visual artists’ organization that’s dedicated to uplift the craft and practice in fine portraiture.
