4th International ICHCC Confab

PEOPLE PLACES - Flor Ynclino - The Freeman

Little did we know that our dear friend Dr. Warfe Tupas Engracia (known in our midst as the singing doctor aside from being a Radiologist) still has that tinge of royal blood from that warrior King in Cebu from generations and generations past – Rajah Tupas.

Last September 14, Dr. Engracia attended a couple of conferences for the 4th International Conference of the International Council for Historical and Cultural Cooperation (ICHCC) – Southeast Asia and the 2017 Philippine Historical Association Annual Conference held at Manila Hotel, De La Salle University and National Museum of Anthropology. The Philippines was the host country and the conference was attended by representatives from the historical societies of Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand, Melayu-Polynesia and even Japan. The richness of the Malay culture was discussed throughout the three-day conference. This year’s theme was “The Malay World: Connecting the past to the present.”

Dr. Engracia was one of the presenters wherein he discussed about Rajah Tupas, the last Malay Warrior King. Indeed it was a great source of pride and joy that the Malay race was being toasted to and preserved, so that generations to come will be able to know their identity and be proud of their Malay heritage.

Notable attendees in the conference were former Prime Minister Cesar Virata, former Tourism Secretary Gemma Cruz-Araneta, Dr. Zeus Salazar who is the prime mover in the formation of the Pan-Malayan Indentity, Dr. Luis Dery of UST and immediate past president of DLSU, Manila (who informed Dr. Engracia that he has the genealogy of Rajah Tupas and he promised to give Dr. Warfe a copy), Dr. Hashim Abdul Wahab, acting president of World Melayu-Polynesia Organization and Dato Dr. Mohamed Razali Yusoff, chairman and managing director of MUSATEK, philanthropist and great supporter of the promotion of the Malay world, Dr. Yusoff also delivered the inspirational message during the conference’s opening in Manila Hotel.

To our friend Warfe, congratulations for being a Tupas, heir to the warrior King... and more power!
