“Resist”– A Biblical Cure to Corruption

CEBU, Philippines — The human life experience is a constant battle of choosing what is right and moral over the irresistibly easy yet dire ways. The choice is especially harder when one has access to great amounts of money – like when in a high-ranking government position. There have been debates regarding how society shall come up with a solution to corruption, but to no avail.

But a lawyer, the ultimate answer is in God’s words.

In 2013, Edward James Dy Buco wrote a manuscript about overcoming the fear of death. But working in the government as a deputy collector for the Bureau of Customs, his attention veered towards the widespread corruption in the country. H started writing about corruption instead, likening it to a disease, a disease that appears to have no cure yet.

His knowledge of corruption at the Bureau led to his resignation in 2014. That same year, Dy Buco finished and first published his book.

After three years, he came back to work in the government again – but was dismayed to find corruption as flagrant as ever. He thought that his book would help enlighten people about the rampant corruption and how to win against it. So he had it republished this year in a new hardbound cover.

The book, titled “Resist,” is founded on the Holy Scriptures. It is a book on corruption with the Bible as main reference. The 142-page book promises to be an easy read which includes proverbs from the Bible that talks about corruption and the author’s insights what to do when presented by the allure of temptation.

Chie Oquias, Dy Buco’s chief of staff who also proofread the book, said that “Resist” is a timeless book that is the antidote for moral decadence and corruption. She related that as she was reading the manuscript with her husband, they both evaluated their professional lives and came to a decision to quit working in government.

“Resist,” Dy Buco believes, is inspired by the Holy Spirit. The book is available at Centralbooks, GV Building, P. Del Rosario St., Cebu City and at all Centralbooks stores nationwide. (FREEMAN)
