CEBU, Philippines - Cecilia Manguerra Brainard’s new novel “The Newspaper Widow” will be launched at the Cebu Literary Festival on Saturday, July 8, at the Ayala Cebu Activity Center, at 5 p.m. The book launch is one of the highlights of the two-day Cebu Literary Festival, which is now on its fourth year.

Brainard is the award-winning author and editor of 19 books, including the “When the Rainbow Goddess Wept” and “Angelica’s Daughters.” Her work has been translated into Finnish and Turkish, and many of her stories and articles have been widely anthologized.  She teaches creative writing at the Writers Program at UCLA-Extension (University of California, Los Angeles.)   “The Newspaper Widow” is published by the University of Santo Tomas Press and will be exclusively sold at the venue with a book-signing with the author after the launch.

Of “The Newspaper Widow,” National Artist for Literature F. Sionil Jose said: “That super wordsmith from Cebu, the Philippines, Cecilia Brainard, never spins a boring story. Her latest is a master whodunit that is also a period piece, a social document, and, most of all, a literary jewel. A must-read for any humdrum season of the year.”
