Matching Hairstyle to outfit

Audrey Cabahug - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Most people have the experience of paying too much attention – and money too – on the outfit that ultimately fail to attain the previously imagined look because of a wrong hairstyle. Yes, a wrong hairstyle can ruin the total outlook, no matter how good and expensive the outfit. Outfit and hairstyle, therefore, should go together.

The hours and hours that women spend in choosing what to wear out for the night are not going to work if not due consideration is given to the hairstyle and the type of makeup to wear to the occasion. Angela Ayles, editor of www.thinkfashion.com, advices that the woman must decide first whether to go for the natural look or the super-sexy bombshell. It is important, she says, because if the entire look is not coordinated, it’s not going to work, whatever the occasion.

Ayles cites a number of things to keep in mind when choosing an outfit for a night out. She says that the first thing is what the overall look is going to be and the second is how to match each element in the desired look in order to look ‘put-together’ in the end. And Ayles is kind enough to share some key points to bear in mind:

Formal Wear for Formal Hair

Having a floor-length Versace gown that looks like it’s worth a fortune means nothing if the hair looks like a mess. If trying to go for an elegant look, up-do’s like French twists, buns and sleek pony-tails are good to choose. Curly pony tails give off a younger, less mature look.

The Messy Look is In

Caution: Choosing the messy look would not do well for a formal event where you’re going for an elegant image. But, for the most part, the messy look is definitely in. The great thing about this look is that it gives off a care-free, natural appearance and it doesn’t take a lot of time to do. So the woman may put on a pair of Diesel jeans and some Baby Phat runners, scrunch her hair with a bit of hair gel and she’s good to go.

The Bob is Out

Apologies to those who still sport this look – but the truth is, the bob is over. Although high profile celebrities like Jessica Simpson like to sport the bob from time to time, the look has just been overdone. It’s hard to imagine her in those little Daisy Duke shorts and skin-tight t-shirt with a bob haircut – it just doesn’t work. Long hair is in for women right now, especially either natural waves or super-straight hair. Luckily, these styles are low-maintenance and take very little time to throw together.

Again, a good, put-together look involves both outfit and matching hairstyle. When shopping, one shall go for pieces of clothing that most complement the present possibilities with her current hairstyle. (FREEMAN)
