Cecilia Manguerra Brainard Book Launch

CEBU, Philippines - Park Mall will hold a book launch of Cecilia Manguerra Brainard’s novel “Magdalena,” followed by the #cebuLitFest Open Mic for spoken word and poetry on Saturday, February 11.  The event will start at 5 p.m., to be held at the Park Mall Central Park (beside Choobi Choobi).

Brainard is the award-winning author and editor of 19 books, including the “When the Rainbow Goddess Wept” and “Angelica’s Daughters.” Her work has been translated into Finnish and Turkish, and many of her stories and articles have been widely anthologized.  She teaches creative writing at the Writers Program at UCLA-Extension (University of California, Los Angeles).  Copies of the Philippine edition of “Magdalena,” published by the University of Santo Tomas Press, are to be sold at the launch venue, with a book signing and reception after the launch.

Meanwhile, the #cebuLitFest Open Mic is a regular celebration of spoken word and music.  It is a showcase of original poetry and songs by upcoming and established performers.  Those interested may sign up at the “Cebu Literary Festival” Facebook page or at the venue on February 11 starting at 5 p.m. The  #cebuLitFest Open Mic starts at 7 p.m. (FREEMAN)
