Miss U bets to call on Duterte today
MANILA, Philippines – Contestants of the 65th Miss Universe pageant are scheduled to call on President Duterte at Malacañang, a week before the beauty tilt’s grand coronation night.
The presentation of the candidates to the President would be held at 2 p.m. at Rizal Hall, according to an advisory yesterday.
Duterte is expected to deliver remarks during the event, which will also be attended by officials of the Miss Universe Organization and members of the Cabinet.
Contestants will also be given the opportunity to pose for photos with the President.
In an interview over the weekend, Tourism Assistant Secretary Ricky Alegre said the President’s staff would be preparing lunch for candidates and other guests. He said the event would help promote the Philippines as a tourism destination.
Duterte is expected to watch the grand coronation night on Jan. 30 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, which will actually be held in the morning to adjust to American time.
