Reminders for school kids

Saison Dampios, Jr. - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - It’s been roughly two weeks since the school term opened. By now the kids must already be a little settled at school. The little ones must have already reunited with old classmates and made friends with new ones.

In short, the kids must already be feeling comfortable and a bit familiar with one another. And so, kiddy misdemeanors may now have begun to surface in class, to the big headache of teachers. This can also undermine the kids’ absorption of the class lessons.

The kids, thus, need to be reminded to behave properly. The book “Hints, Tips, & Smart Advice” by FamilyCircle, published by Mallard Press, lists “The Five Biggest Teacher Turn-offs” that school kids need to know and remember.

Talking in class – includes a response to a reprimand and talking without being called on. The biggest don’t: making a derogatory remark about another student.

Disrespect for school property – slamming doors, kicking garbage cans, throwing things, wasting supplies.

Messy looks, sloppy schoolwork – indicates lack of interest and caring about school and schoolwork.

General misconduct – not sitting still, running out of line

Consistent lateness – when a child is frequently tardy, he distracts the other students and disrupts classroom routine.

Those five are good to always keep in mind. But those are not the only ones. Listening to the parents’ advice and the teachers’ lessons is a good way of learning more ideas towards proper behavior – whether at school or at home.  (FREEMAN)
