Celebrating the Seat of the Sole
CEBU, Philippines - Havaianaticos all over the country took creativity and self-expression to their soles at the country's biggest and most anticipated customization event, Make Your Own Havaianas (MYOH), which was held on April 22 to May 1 at All Flip Flops in SM Seaside City Cebu. The ten-day event was attended by style squads, sun worshippers and generations of Havaianaticos from millennials making their first pair to those making their 11th MYOH combination. Every year, MYOH highlights a destination or theme that celebrates its heritage. This year, Havaianas paid homage to its Japanese roots with the commemorative sole inspired by the ancient art of Shibori, a Japanese fabric-dyeing technique that makes use of indigo shades to create beautiful patterns on cloths for kimonos and obi sashes. The 2016 collection also came with a selection of kawaii pins - Sakura, Ramen, Japanese Fan, Empress, Zori, Ninja and other statement pins - with the finished pairs packaged in an eye-catching dyed bag with Japanese designs created by local craft artist Alessa Lanot.
Havaianas was launched in Brazil in 1962. The first pair was actually inspired by the Zori, a type of Japanese sandal made of fabric straps and rice straw soles. This year's creations are at #MYOH2016. The latest updates and promos are at @havaianasphils on Instagram and Twitter, at Havaianas Philippines on Facebook, and at www.havaianas.com.
