CIVAC in Action

Flor Ynclino - The Freeman

The 1901st Ready Reserve Infantry Brigade, led by their commander, Col. Erik Espina, held another three-in-one Civic Action, which is a test for graduation in the training of the Brigade's Assembly, with tree planting and Civic Action at Barangay Pawa, Dumanjug, Cebu, a remote barangay some 8.8 kilometers from the town proper.

Around 567-plus individuals, adults and children also from neighboring upland barangays were benefited with the free medicines, medical consultations, free slippers, massage and even free haircuts and other amenities which were offered at the Civic Action.

Col. Espina said this is a continuing civic mission by the Reserve Brigade. A graduation ceremony was held right after the Civic Action. The Reservists have undergone training in disaster response and relief operations, environmental protection, protecting and nurturing the environment, and responding to the fatal effects of global warming and climate change.

There were civilian doctors from Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, headed by Dr. Tyrone Mercader, and Cebu Velez General Hospital who participated in the Civic Action as volunteers. They were Drs. Ang of CVGH, Jason Badilles and Thalia Tubungbanua from VSMMC. Assisting the activity were Ms. Jerrelyn H. Sayson, Pawa Brgy. Captain Gerardo "Ike" Quirante and Kiwanis International Lt. Gov. Alberto Manaynay.

The 1901st Brigade has a conservative estimate of having some 8,200 beneficiaries served in the year 2015 alone.
