CEBU, Philippines — Kapuso actress Janine Gutierrez admitted she feels nervous about her role in the upcoming movie “Spirit of the Glass 2: The Haunted” because she considers her mom, Lotlot de Leon, as an expert when it comes to horror.

“Nape-pressure ako kasi magaling siya sa horror kaya kailangang ibigay ko talaga lahat,” Janine said.

Nonetheless, the “Legally Blind” lead actress said she enjoyed every moment shooting the film.

“Na-enjoy ko ‘yung paggawa ng horror. Napaka supportive po n’ya (Lotlot). Kumukuha ako ng tips sa mga role na ginawa nya. Sobrang classic po kasi nung mga yon.”

Janine said her role, Sabrina, a famous actress in the 1960s, is very challenging to her.

“Yung period kasi. Dapat iba ‘yung itsura mo. Dapat pasok noong  ‘60s lahat pati kilos at pagsalita mo. At higit sa lahat, medyo madrama po kasi ‘yung mga eksena. Very physical. May fight scenes, puro sigawan. So mahirap po talaga for me,” she confided.

Janine admitted she never had an encounter with the supernatural, unlike her co-star in the movie, beauty queen Maxine Medina, who narrated her eerie experiences on “Rated K.”

Janine said she has been watching horror movies to be desensitized to the supernatural, because if she sees a ghost, she thinks she would be scared to death.

Never toy with the unknown because it might just come back to haunt you. This is the lesson from “Spirit of the Glass 2: The Haunted,” the latest horror movie set to hit Filipino theaters in time for Halloween.

Three fashionista friends who are popular on social media attempt to have some offline fun by trying to contact spirits using the age-old Spirit of the Glass game and this opens up to a series of horrific haunting experiences.

Bea is a lifestyle editor of a popular magazine, Lisette is an up-and-coming young actress, and Chelsea is a sought-after model. They are the “Girls of the Moment,” living blissful lives basking in their popularity.

One night, together with their love interests, Enzo, Jag, and Andre summon a trio of vengeful spirits with Bea’s Ouija Board, and this triggers a succession of disturbing supernatural events in relation to a crime committed 50 years ago. The spirits haunt the girls and their partners until they are forced to connect with a blind medium named

Anita to help the spirits seek justice and eternal peace.

The movie is written by Jose Javier Reyes as a nod to the first “Spirit of the Glass” movie which he also directed. The first movie came out in 1994 with an ensemble cast including Rica Peralejo, Marvin Agustin, Drew Arellano, Paolo Contis, Alessandra de Rossi and Dingdong Dantes.

“Spirit of the Glass 2 : The Haunted” also stars Cristine Reyes, Daniel Matsunaga, Maxine Medina, Benjamin Alves, Ashley Ortega, Enrico Cuenca, Dominic Roque and Aaron Villaflor. With fresh new faces and the latest in special effects and filming technology, together with superb storytelling, this latest installment in the horror genre promises to give a new generation of Filipino moviegoers another screamfest full of thrills and chills.

The movie’s director pleaded not to compare his opus to other horror films showing on November 1.

“Iisa lang ang industriya ng pelikulang Pilipino. Maliit lamang ito. Hindi naman wasto para ipagsabong ang dalawang pelikula at sabihing mamatay ang isa at ang isa ay magwagi. Dapat magwagi pareho dahil iisa lang ang industriya,” the award-winning director said.

“This is not a competition. This is a celebration of horror movies!”
