CEBU, Philippines — This Psychology major from Cebu Doctors’ University thinks her degree comes in handy in pageantry. Having studied people’s behavior, performance and mental operation, she is “more optimistic, able to build relationships easier, can build self-confidence, and whenever I encounter problems, I can make better decisions by analyzing and internalizing the situation.”

A former recruiter at Human Factor Training and Consultancy, Jaqueline says she had always wanted to be a flight stewardess due to her love for travelling. Realizing that it meant time away from family, the five-foot-seven mestiza is planning to put up her own business instead.

Winning the first ever Binibining Cebu crown would mean everything to Jaqueline, as she believes it will change her life. Her approach to making victory within reach?

“I’m being open minded and listening to my handler’s advice and constructive criticism. They’ve been in this industry for years so they know what is best. My only challenge is to not let the pressure of this competition get the best of me and to always give my 100 percent full performance,” says this Miss Mandaue 2012 second runner-up who you will most probably see enjoying a cup of coffee in a café and reading a book.

If she could set a meeting with an important person in society, Jaqueline’s top choice is media mogul Oprah Winfrey. “Oprah is considered as one of the most influential women in the world. She uses her power and resources to help those in need. She donates millions of dollars each year to charities that are of personal interest to her. Currently, she is focusing her energy on creating The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation, created for girls in South Africa. As quoted, ‘the school will teach girls to be best human beings they can be, it will train them to become decision-makers and leaders; it will be a model school for the rest of the world.’ I would like to talk to her about the Philippines and if there is a way to have the same foundation here to help those less fortunate to have a proper education because I believe that everyone deserves a good education to promote self-awareness and have a pro-active life and career.”

Another woman of influence she admires is Miss World president Julia Morley. “I look up to her as a businesswoman, a charity worker and a former model,” she points out. “Just like her, I want to be remembered not just for my beauty but also my skills, attitude and  personality. Win or lose, the responsibilities of a good citizen does not stop and I will exhaust all means to make a difference and be an example of Ms. Julia’s Beauty with a Purpose.”

A resident of Bulacao, Jaqueline is calling everyone to rediscover her city of Talisay. “Talisay is everything you are looking for: from the people to culture, food and tourist spots. It is full of natural and built heritage. We have the Liberation Park, Sta. Theresa de Avila Parish Church, Larawan Beach, Igutan Falls and Cave and the Laya Cave. So much hidden beauty and treasures unseen!” (FREEMAN)
