Chanel Morales: A regal millenial baby

STAR CIRCUIT - Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Chanel Morales was part of “Artista Academy,” the reality-based artista search of the Kapatid Network. She is considered one of the future stars of TV5 until the head of the TV network decided to close the entertainment department and concentrate on sports.

Because of this, the homegrown talents of  TV5 had nowhere to turn to. Some of them transferred to ABS-CBN like Vin Abrenica, Mark Neumann and Ritz Azul. The others decided to quit showbiz and go back to their studies.

Chanel was taken by ALV Talent Circuit, headed by Arnold Vegafria and was later signed up by Regal Entertainment as a member of the Regal Millennial Babies of Mother Lily and Roselle Monteverde.

She is cast in the new movie “The Debutantes,” set to hit theaters nationwide on October 4. Other stars in the movie are Kapamilya Network talents Miles Ocampo, Jane de Leon, Sue Ramirez and Michelle Vito.

According to Chanel, she didn’t have a hard time bonding with the four other girls even if she’s the only one who came from an independent talent management, while the four others were from Star Magic of the Kapamilya Network.

“Kahit ako nagulat din na all of them are from Star Magic. Ako lang yung from ALV. Masaya kasi du’n sa set, nag-uusap naman kami at hindi sila yung parang nagko-compete para sa isa’t-isa. Masaya lang lahat,” said the Bacolod lass.

“The Debutantes” is Chanel’s very first movie under Regal and she is hoping and praying that she will be doing more projects in the future.

It was a fun-filled forum organized by talent manager and columnist Noel Ferrer and his artists at the recently concluded Manila International Book Fair held at the SMX at Mall of Asia last Sunday, September 17.

Gracing the event were Adrian  Alandy (formerly known as Luis Alandy when he started his career 20 years ago), Joross Gamboa, Marco Alcaraz, Lara Quigaman, Rocco Nacino and Edgar Allan Guzman (who did two song numbers).

Still on sale in book stores is Noel Ferrer’s “Sisikat Din Ako” (English Version) and “Mag-Artista Ka” (Tagalog Version), which serves as a guide for aspiring artists who want to make it as big stars in showbiz “sa tamang panahon.”

In our interview with Joross backstage before the forum started, the Star Circle finalist said that he is happy with the current projects he is doing both in movies and television.

He is in the cast of “La Luna Sangre” where he plays the adoptive father of Kathryn Bernardo.

“It’s a good role since I have to do action scenes and I do my own stunts and fight scenes, no double,” Joross proudly said. “It is really exciting since this is the first time that I am doing action. In ‘La Luna Sangre,’ aside from action scenes, I also dabble in drama and comedy.”

Last Sunday, he also finished shooting for “Buy Bust,” an action film where he plays kontrabida to Anne Curtis.

“This is a different kind of kontrabida role but I can’t go into details yet about since I will be revealing so much about the movie if I do so,” Joross said.

“Happy ako to be working with Anne and with Direk Erik Matti, na first time kong makakatrabaho. Saka kakaiba kasi may patayan at ang barilan eh sa mukha ka patatamaan,” said Joross. He doesn’t know if “Buy Bust” will be submitted as an entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival.

He is also in the cast of the Star Cinema film “Dalawang Mrs. Reyes,” where he plays the husband of Judy Ann Santos.

“Ibang level na ito kasi hindi na ako sidekick o best friend kundi asawa na ni Judy Ann.  Eh kahit na masampal lang ako ni Juday sa movie eh happy na ako. Wala na akong hahanapin pa,” Joross jokingly said.

What motivates Joross to work hard is his family. “I have been in the business for 13 years and I have already matured. I realized I need to focus on my work because I already have a family of my own. I need to prepare for my child’s future. Kaya basta may trabaho, game ako. Kahit anong role payag ako, basta wala lang frontal nudity, hahaha,” said Joross.

He plays the lead role in the Bebs Gohetia film titled “I Love You Thank You,” opening at Ayala Cinemas today and at SM Cinemas on Friday, September 22, as part of Cine Lokal.
