The Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors or SPEED revealed the nominees to the first ever The Editors Entertainment Awards or The Eddys.

The big reveal happened on Saturday, June 10, at the 38 Valencia Place owned by Regal Entertainment producer Lily Monteverde. The Eddys will be held at the Kia Theater on July 9 with the able support of Viva Entertainment and ABS-CBN, which will telecast the awards on the same day on a slightly delayed basis.

The Eddys is the group’s way of encouraging Filipino filmmakers, producers, writers, actors, and other allied artists in the Philippine movie industry to continue pursuing their passion of creating films that mirror the realities of our society.

“Given our collective experience and many decades of chronicling the careers, artistic processes and success or failure of actors, directors, producers and other players in the Philippine movie industry, we felt that we are in a distinctive position to hand out sound and sincere recognition of the best in filmmaking of the past year, and eventually inspire everyone in the industry to take pride in their craft and continue to enrich the Filipino talent,” says SPEED President Isah V. Red, currently Lifestyle and Entertainment Editor of the Manila Standard.

Heading the list of contenders is the gay-themed movie “Die Beautiful,” which picked up 13 nominations. “Die Beautiful” earned nods for Best Film, Best Director (Jun Lana), Best Actor (Paolo Ballesteros), Best Supporting Actor (Joel Torre and Christian Bables), and Best Supporting Actress (Gladys Reyes).

Isah says they are ready for any reactions, good or bad, with regards to their nominations. “We cannot please everybody but we are ready to accept whatever reactions that will come our way. We know that not everyone will be happy with our choices. But we will cross the bridge when we get there,” he adds.

The Awards Night of The Eddys will be hosted by the father and son tandem of Edu and Luis Manzano.

At the launch of Ariella Arida as endorser of Cosmo Skin GSE, she was asked if it’s true that she had a relationship with Willie Revillame, the host of “Wowowin” where she is also a co-host

“Wow, hindi naman po. I consider him as my kuya,” the Miss Universe 2015 third runner-up said. But she reveals that Willie is generous in giving gifts, although she is not being singled out as Willie’s co-hosts receive presents from him too.

“Pag natutuwa po siya sa amin, binibigyan niya po kaming lahat ng gift,” says Ariella. “The gift is our bonus from him.”

She also admitted receiving a Louis Vuitton bag from Willie, not a Hermes. Besides, she says, Willie knows that Ariella has a non-showbiz boyfriend.

She says her lovelife is stable and she doesn’t know if it’s an advantage or a disadvantage that her life is monotonous. But Ariella likes it that way. She wants her private life to remain private. She’d rather be discreet when it comes to her lovelife.

The beauty queen says that aside from hosting, she would also like to try acting. Given a choice, she wants Piolo Pascual to be her leading man. He finds Piolo very down-to-earth and professional and she admires him for being a very good actor.
