CEBU, Philippines - A 21-year-old pageant winner had been chosen to inject some challenge in the love story of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza’s characters for their upcoming TV series.
Koreen Medina – crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia Pacific International 2013 – bested other auditionees who tried out for the role of the other girl in “Destined To Be Yours.”
Koreen won a Mutya crown in the same year that Cebu’s Angeli Dione Gomez also bagged the Mutya ng Pilipinas Tourism International title.
She went on to represent the Philippines at the 42nd Miss Intercontinental pageant in Germany, where she placed third runner-up and was named Miss Intercontinental 2013 Asia and Oceania.
In 2015, the Quezon City native joined the sixth season of GMA-7’s “Starstruck” search where she was among the semi-finalists.
Aware how impassioned Alden and Maine’s fans can be, Koreen is already bracing herself for the possible deluge of bashing she will get as a third wheel in one of the country’s most popular love teams.
“Lahat naman talaga ng celebrities, may bashers. Pero iba kasi ‘to, sila talaga ang hottest loveteam sa panahong ito,” she told Pep.ph.
“Magandang opportunity siya for me as a newcomer in the industry. Kailangang mabigyan ko ng justice ang character,” adds Koreen, who looks up to Jennylyn Mercado among GMA-7’s actresses.
Of her impressions on Aldub upon meeting them during the story conference of “Destined To Be Yours,” Koreen shared: “Sobrang bait at cool lang nila. Spontaneous lang sila. Wala silang arte-arte sa katawan.”
Koreen says she won’t be entering another beauty tilt anytime soon. “Dito muna ako nagpu-focus sa showbiz. Dumarating na ang opportunities, might as well grab them.” (FREEMAN)
