Rose Byrne on reprising ‘X-Men’ role

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Rose Byrne is red hot in the June 2016 edition of Playboy.

The 36-year-old Australian actress, who reprises her roles in sequels for “X-Men” and “Neighbors,” does not appear nude in the magazine, but is rather pictured wearing a low-cut red silk robe, opened to reveal some cleavage.

Her photo spread was released more than three months after she gave birth to her and longtime partner and actor Bobby Cannavale’s first child, son Rocco.

These mark her first official Playboy pictures. The magazine has long featured Byrne among its list of “hot, sexy women.”

In “X-Men: Apocalypse,” the third film in the prequel series, she reprises her role as Moira Mactaggert. She previously played the part in the first movie, “X-Men: First Class,” which was released in 2011. The new film is set in the ‘80s.

“Twenty years have passed, and yeah, she looks pretty good,” Byrne said about her character. “Everyone joked about it on set. Does time not apply to these characters? The mutants can probably get away with not aging, but I’m a mortal. Moira might have a good plastic surgeon.”

In “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising,” she returns as Kelly Radner, wife of Seth Rogen’s character Mac Radner.

“As irresponsible as Seth’s character is, we wanted my character to be equally irresponsible,” Byrne said. “They’re a team. And another thing—and this isn’t a radical thing, but it is in the context of these films—is that they have a great marriage. They’re on the same page. They enjoy each other, and sex, and they’re best friends.”

Byrne also recalled another past role, one many people may be unaware of: She played Dormé, handmaiden to Natalie Portman’s Padmé Amidala, in the 2002 film “Star Wars: Episode II—Attack of the Clones.”

“It was extraordinary being a part of that,” Byrne said. “I mean, talk about the fans! I have one line in that movie. It’s a stretch to say I have a character at all. But to this day, 90 percent of the fan mail I get is from ‘Star Wars’—90 percent—to sign pictures of me in a purple snood.”  (FREEMAN)
