‘Pasion de Amor’ to end soon

- Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

At the finale presscon of the top-rating ABS-CBN series “Pasion de Amor,” it was announced that the show is set to conclude its run after a month. The show started airing last June and will wrap up on February 27.

More explosive revelations will be coming as the series nears its end. According to director Ruel Bayani, the business unit head of “Pasion de Amor,” because of the busy schedule of the cast, they have decided to hold the  thanksgiving presscon earlier to express their gratitude to the members of the press and to the numerous viewers of the show. The series had been doing well in the ratings since it started airing last year.

It is a rare occasion to see the entire cast of “Pasion de Amor” in one venue except during their taping. The cast members composed of Jake Cuenca, Ejay Falcon, Ellen Adarna, Joseph Marco, Coleen Garcia, Ellen Adarna at Arci Muñoz were all in high spirits during the presscon but they also expressed sadness since they will be missing each other once taping of the series ends soon.

Also at the presscon was Wendell Ramos who plays the main villain in the show. He was very thankful to ABS-CBN for making him a part of “Pasion de Amor” and for giving him a chance to take on a challenging role. With the good feedback on his performance in “Pasion de Amor,” Wendell is hopeful that more projects will come his way.

For their part, Ejay, Joseph and Jake said they treat each other like true brothers. Even if taping is over, they even make it a point to contact each other thru their Viber group. Ejay also expressed that even if “Pasion de Amor” closes at the end of the month, the closeness and camaraderie that the cast developed after many months of working together will not change.

Well, that closeness won’t diminish if they will continue to communicate with each other even if their show bows out of the air. But since they still have taping days left before “Pasion de Amor” ends on February 27, they still have enough time for bonding moments.

From doing supporting roles, erstwhile child actress Kiray Celis is elevated to lead star status in “Love is Blind.” And please don’t raise your eyebrows since she is co-starring with Derek Ramsay and Solenn Heussaff in this new movie of Jason Paul Laxamana for Regal Entertainment.

Kiray was only three years old when she joined showbiz after competing in the Munting Miss U contest of “Magandang Tanghali Bayan.” She may not have won the contest, but that opened the door for her to be in the cast of “Goin’ Bulilit.”

She has 15 years in the business and her biggest break so far is “Love is Blind” since she has Derek for her leading man. Kiray, of course, is also dreaming to be a lead actress. With her talents, many are saying she ought to get an acting break in the movies. And that time has come via “Love is Blind.”

With this movie, Kiray can proudly say that once in her life, she experienced what it was like to be a leading lady. And to Derek Ramsay at that!

She is happy with the chance given to her by Regal Films to be a leading lady. Even if she is identified with Channel 2 and had done quite a number of movies with Star Cinema, there is no issue that her launching film is with Regal and not with Star Cinema.

Even if she has done a lead role, Kiray is still willing to accept supporting characters. “It doesn’t mean that just because I did a lead role, I can’t accept supporting roles,” she said.

Kiray says she is not in showbiz to gain fame but to earn money. Her wish is for “Love is Blind” to become successful at the box-office so that another solo movie will hopefully come her way again.

“Love is Blind” hits cinemas on February 10.

The outdoor screening of the indie film “Lakbay2Love” held Friday at the UP Diliman Amphitheater was a big success. Dennis Trillo and Solenn Heussaff led the group of bike riders who went around UP as spearheaded by the UP Bike Share, an organization in UP and was among those who supported “Lakbay2Love,” a romantic film by Ellen Marfil about biking and the environment.

The event dubbed as “Trip:Lakbay2Love” was composed of a bike ride, outdoor premiere of the movie and a concert which had as performers  Dennis and Solenn, Joey Ayala, Gig Manila and other surprise guests. The event was organized by Erasto Films (producer of “Lakbay2Love”) and Firefly Brigade.

The highlight of the evening was the raffling off of autographed Trek bicycles that was used by Solenn and Dennis in the movie. “Lakbay2Love” is considered the first biking feature film in local cinema. The outdoor premiere last January 29 was also deemed a first.

“Lakbay2Love” is rated G (General Patronage) by MTRCB and it received a Grade of A from the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB). It opens today in theaters nationwide.
