2014 one of Jasmine Curtis Smith’s best years

- Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Jasmine Curtis Smith is looking forward to attending the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival Parade of Stars. She is joining the annual spectacle of actors before leaving for Australia where she will spend the holidays with her mom and dad who are based in the Land Down Under.

The younger sister of Kapamilya star Anne Curtis considers the year 2014 as one of her best years, if not the best. After her victory in Cinemalaya last year as best supporting actress, Jasmine picked up another trophy for Breakthrough Performance by an Actress at the Golden Screen Awards for “Transit” directed by Hannah Espia.

Another high point in Jasmine’s career was her doing the movie “Dementia” with Ms. Nora Aunor where her performance was similarly lauded by critics and fans alike.

In “Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo,” she plays a student tasked to do a research on the life of Andres Bonifacio. Through their research, they get to know more about Bonifacio and the influence he had in the people.

“My Big Bossing,” starring perennial box-office star Vic Sotto and his wonderful child star protégé Ryzza Mae Dizon, will surely be among the movies predicted to make a good showing at the tills when the movie opens in theaters nationwide on Christmas Day. The fact that the movie is geared towards family entertainment fare should make it a favorite.

Parents and kids, grandparents and their grandchildren, and every generation of the Pinoy family will surely enjoy what this movie has to offer. The wholesome combination of fantasy, thrill and comedy offered in three independent stories within the movie has a storyline that was developed by three of the leading directors. Three producers – Octo Arts Films, M-Zet and APT Entertainment – have welcomed the idea of putting a script that caters to all levels of society.

The movie is directed by three of our best filmmakers – Bb. Joyce Bernal for the “Prinsesa” episode, Tony Y. Reyes for “Sirena,” and Marlon Rivera for “Taktak.”

There is magic and mystery in each of its three episodes, all of them affirming in the end the value of the family. Bossing Vic is known for making family-oriented movies and this somehow gives them some kind of edge compared to the other competing entries.

Since Ryzza Mae is the most popular child star at the moment, all eyes are on her. Will she bag the best child performer award? When asked at the grand presscon of  “My Big Bossing,” Ryzza said: “I am not expecting anything. Masaya na po ako kug mano-nominate ako. If I win the award, I will be very happy.” Here, Ryzza Mae gets a new screen partner in Alonzo Muhlach, the son of former child wonder Niño Muhlach who is now touted as the newest emerging child wonder.

A family-oriented movie will surely attract the children and their parents. That is why many people are saying that “My Big Bossing” will get a good share of the audience on December 25 because many Filipino families have made it an annual tradition to troop to the theaters during the holidays. The popularity of Ryzza Mae is a plus factor that should bring in the kids and their parents.

Just a few days before Christmas and yet, “Bubble Gang” continues the tradition of providing topnotch entertainment via a comedy/gag show.

Bubble Gang’s segments in gags on Christmas décor, spoof of a burger commercial, and a portion for Diego where he answers the questions and gives sometimes naughty answers. There is also Mr. Matapobre who believes that everyone needs to be rich in order to stop poverty.

Their istambay segments shows the barkada singing a song referring to the loss of Christmas spirit due to conflict caused by the people, while in the Ang Dating Doon segment, the topic to be discussed will be about Christmas.
