Miss Earth 2014 holds pre-pageant events in Cebu

CEBU, Philippines – Earth warriors from around the globe invaded Cebu recently, as three Miss Earth 2014 pre-coronation events were held in the home turf of this year’s Philippine delegate.

First on the schedule was the Talent Night competition for Group 1 (all 85 finalists were divided into three groups, with the two other batches competing in other pre-pageant events in other locations), held at JPark Island Resort & Waterpark in Lapu-Lapu City last November 15.  Twenty-eight candidates flaunted their talents, including Cebu’s Jaime Herrell who wears the Miss Philippines sash in this year’s pageant.

Winners that evening were Miss Chinese Taipei Kuan-Lien Chen (Bronze) who played the flute, Miss U.S. Virgin Islands Esonica Veira (Gold) who did a Michael Jackson dance number, and Miss Tahiti Hereata Ellard (Silver) who captivated the audience with her butt-shaking Hawaiian dance.

After Herrell showcased her dance moves (her family owns a dance studio in Mactan), the Reyna ng Aliwan and Sinulog Festival Queen title-holder unfortunately fell ill, and failed to reappear onstage alongside her fellow candidates during the announcement of winners. The Fil-Am beauty was a trooper though, as she earlier showed no signs of being under the weather while gyrating to a Christina Aguilera hit.

As of this writing, Herrell is in a triple tie with Miss Brazil and Miss U.S. Virgin Islands in the medal tally of pre-pageant awards. So far, Herrell has been chosen Gold winner in the Darling of the Press selection and in Group 1’s Cocktail competition. She’s also been selected for the sponsor citations of Miss Earth Hannah’s Beach Resort and Miss Hannah’s Beach Resort Best in Swimsuit.

On November 17, the ladies trooped to Adnama Building’s Level 8 at the North Reclamation Area for the Evening Gown competition. Standouts in their floor-length finery were Miss Tahiti (Bronze), Miss India (Gold) and Miss Spain (Silver). In the same affair, Miss Puerto Rico bagged the Miss Psalmstre sponsor award, while Miss Czech Republic was declared Miss Placenta.

A cocktail competition was also held at the Crimson Resort in Lapu-Lapu City.

The Miss Earth 2014 coronation night is happening this Saturday, November 29 at the U.P. Theatre in Manila. Last year’s winner, Alyz Henrich of Venezuela, will crown her successor. – VAB & YRT
