Family time for Sylvia after Be Careful’s 2-year run

- Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Come November 28, the top-rating and long-running daytime drama series “Be Careful with My Heart,” which features Jodi Sta. Maria and Richard Yap in lead roles, bids its loyal viewers goodbye after two years and four months on the air. It was an exciting and fruitful run for the show being directed by Jeffrey Jeturian. The program became a phenomenal success, something that the production team did not expect.

At the farewell presscon of the program last week, Jodi and Papa Chen expressed sadness that the show is finally ending. They will miss their co-stars which have been with them during the entire run of “Be Careful with My Heart,” and some of their co-stars could not hold back their tears during the media conference. They said they have become so close to each other that they consider themselves as family.

“I have mixed emotions,” said Jodi. “I’m very thankful for what it has done to me and my career, but lahat nang sinimulan, may katapusan. Syempre, mami-miss ko lahat ng mga kasama ko rito at pati yung paggising ko sa umaga na pupunta na ako sa taping.”

“Bittersweet” was the word used by Papa Chen to describe his feelings about the ending  of “Be Careful with My Heart.” But Papa Chen also said that they should look at the positive side even if the show is about to go off the air. The show inspired a lot of people and made a lot of people happy.

“For sure, we’ll all miss it as it’s been a part of our lives for two years now. But it’s good to end on a high note while we’re still rating high. That’s a positive thing. We’ll definitely cherish all the moments we had together doing the show, pati na ang local and world tours we did, the album we recorded and the concert we had at Araneta Coliseum,” the Cebuano actor said.

For her part, Sylvia Sanchez said she will miss everyone she worked with on the set of “Be Careful.” And by everyone, she means not only her co-stars, but also the production staff who took good care of them during the entire duration of the program.  In the more than two years that they’ve been together, they have created such great camaraderie that will bond them through the years, even if they don’t get the chance to work with each other again.

“We treated each other as family. Ganyan kami ka-close sa isa’t-isa, to the point na we can tell each other our problems at kami-kami ay nagbibigay ng advice sa bawat isa. I mean, kung makakasama ko man silang lahat sa susunod kong soap opera o hindi, one thing is sure, solid na solid ang pagsasamahan namin at yun ang isang bagay na hahanapin ko once magsimula ako muling gumawa ng bagong soap,” said Sylvia.

She has yet to start on a new TV show but for now, Sylvia’s plan is to rest for three months before she accepts a new acting assignment for a soap opera. The two years that she spent working on “Be Careful” kept her away from her family for long periods of time. “I want to make it up to them. I want to spend more time with them first before I go back to work. Sobra ko silang na-miss…ang asawa ko at mga anak ko... kasi tutok ako sa programa. Babawi muna ako sa kanila,” said the award-winning character actress.

What excites Sylvia is her forthcoming movie under Star Cinema titled “The Trial” which features John Lloyd Cruz, Richard Gomez, Gretchen Barretto and Jessy Mendiola. Sylvia plays the lesbian mom of John Lloyd in this film by Chito Roño.

We had the chance to watch Robin Padilla host “Talentadong Pinoy” live last Sunday when we were invited to the taping held at the Novaliches studio of TV5. We can say that Robin fits his hosting job to a T. If at first we were kind of wary if Robin would fare well as a TV host, turns out he has definitely gave “Talentadong Pinoy” his own brand of hosting. He has that charming presence that the studio audience likes, and it also sits well with TV viewers.

He can also crack jokes with his co-host K Brosas and has good rapport with the contestants. But he gets sad when it’s time to announce the winners. “Kung pwede lang lahat manalo. Naaawa ako sa natatalo kasi umiyak sila after the announcement of the winner,” said Robin.

It was the first semifinal round that was taped last Sunday and among the seven contestants, only one winner will be chosen to take home the prize of P100,000 and will move on to the grand finals. But since Robin has the power to choose another winner, he gave an additional P50,000 taken from his talent fee so that he can choose another contender who will also move on to the finals.

We can’t reveal who the winners are but you can watch the telecast of “Talentadong Pinoy” on Saturday. Robin was really heartbroken when he saw the non-winning contestants crying after the announcement of the winner.
