CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-7) both support the Philippine Technology Transfer Act of 2009.

"Revolutionizing Filipino science and technology is a resource and opportunity the local industries can tap," said CCCI president Melanie Ng yesterday during the opening of Regional Technology Transfer Day at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.

The chamber, according to Ng will encourage its members to take advantage of locally-developed technologies and innovations to be at ar with the global players.

"Together with the DOST, we hope to bring about a culture of technological innovation in entrepreneurship as we step up Cebu," she said adding that CCCI will continue to provide supportive ecosystems to help entrepreneurs bring their businesses to the next level.

Yesterday's convention gathered innovators that offerof solutions for homegrown entrepreneurs with their innovative technologies specifically in the areas of agriculture productivity, industry competitiveness, countryside development, environment and disaster risk reduction management, and quality healthcare.

Ng said the chamber shall organize similar events in the future in order to strengthen the connection of innovators and end-users (businesses), thereby establishing a solid ecosystem.

"In this day and age of disruptive technologies, How an entrepreneur grows a business, largely depends on the tools, the science and technology that went into the business. Gone are the days whereby one does straightforward trading and one earns significantly from it," Ng concluded.

The Technology Transfer Act of 2009 is an act providing the framework and support system for the ownership, management, use, and commercialization of intellectual property generated from research and development funded by government and for other purposes. (FREEMAN)
