CEBU, Philippines - As security threats continue to haunt business establishments and residential owners, a Cebuano entrepreneur has invested on a venture on the distribution and after-sales service shop for closed-circuit television cameras.

Businessman Jefren Pages invested an estimated amount of P4 million to open the "Tech Box" facility along Banilad, to address the growing need for security gadgets particularly good quality CCTV cameras for all market segments.

Pages, whose family owns the restaurant Kaona Grill, said that while CCTV products are available in over-the-counter stores, most businesses and even residential users are having a hard time maintaining the system due to lack of after sales services.

CCTV, he said has become an essential gadget in businesses and residential segments, in fact, it is already required by the government before approving a business permit.

Pages, assisted by his son J. Ezra P. Pages, who is an IT specialist, managed to clinch an exclusive distributorship deal with Scouter Electronics Corporation, a manufacturer and distributor of high quality CCTVs, intelligent cameras, shell designs, mold makings, SMT processing, assembly, product customization, among others.

The company formed a team of technicians to respond to any after-sales, installation problems of its clients.

Pages observed that despite this need, still a minimal percentage of Cebuanos have installed CCTV ca meras on their businesses or even at their residences.

The company is planning to invest another P9 million to open a similar shop in neighboring cities in the province.

In addition, The Tech Box is also offering repair services for other technology gadgets such as laptops, personal computer, smart phones, among others.

For its smartphone repairs, the company has commissioned technicians from the popular Greenhills Tech Group.

Recently, as a move to beef up security measures and help mitigate the number of theft and robbery cases in Cebu, the Philippine National Police strongly urged retailers to install quality CCTV cameras in their respective business establishments.

"The CCTV recordings also help policemen track suspects and solve crimes," said PNP Regional Intelligence Division Chief Supt. Paul Gacayan Labra II during the Philippine Retailers Association - Cebu Chapter.

“We are urging merchants to make sure that their surveillance cameras are up and working and the video is of good quality," Labra added. — (FREEMAN)
