When you are feeling down

LIFE'S ESSENCE - Katherine R. Oyson - The Freeman

Feeling down? Got the blues?  You’re not alone. Everyone feels sad and feeling down at times.  This is a normal reaction especially when we’re alone, when there are people or situations that trigger this kind of  feeling, or if when we feel nostalgic of the past.

The “kidhealth website,” points out that from time to time, we all get a little down maybe even a little depressed. Maybe we are feeling overwhelmed or feel bad because we’re not doing well with our goals.

Like the case of  Madison Sonnier who confided, “When I was eighteen, I got depressed  and stayed depressed for a little over a year. For over a year, every single day was a battle with myself. For every single day, I felt heavy and pointless. I call these days “zombie days." However, since then I made tremendous progress by becoming more self-aware, practicing self-love, and noticing the infinite blessings and possibilities in my life.”

Sonnier further confided, “I still have days when these familiar old feelings sneak up on me. However, I practiced some simple ways to improve my mood when I’m feeling down. These I want to share with you.

•Step back and self-respect. Try to stop, reflect and get to the root of your feelings.

•Reach out to someone. Don’t bottle-up your feelings. Reach out to a loving, understanding person is one of the best things you can do.

•Listen to music. Music can heal. It can put you in a better mood, make you feel less alone, or take you on a mental journey.

•Go for a walk, Walking helps you clear your mind and shed off of negative energy. It’s specially therapeutic if you choose to walk at a scenic location.

•Take a nap. Sometimes, we need to recharge.  You always feel better after getting some rest.

•Look for something positive in a negative comment or situation. If someone says negative or you get stuck in an unpleasant situation, sometimes it helps to look at it from a different angle. A positive perspective can spell a difference.

•Let it go. Whatever is bothering you, let it go. Like any storm in life, “This too shall pass.”

In the same vein, a person by the name of Ljae Chua shared  her feelings through YouTube. She said, “My life has been down lately. I lost my job. I hurt the one that I love and everything is just not turning out right because of my selfishness. However, I became enlightened upon hearing the song with the following lyrics:

“Lord, I offer my life to you, All that I am, all that I have.  I lay them down before you, oh Lord, All my regrets, all my acclaim. The joy and the pain, I’m making them yours.

Lord, I offer my life to You. Everything  I’ve been through, use it  for Your glory. Lord I offer my days to You.  Lifting my praise to You as my pleasing sacrifice.  Lord, I offer You  my life …”
