MANILA, Philippines — The 52nd Singapore National Day reception was held on Aug. 15 at the Raffles & Fairmont Hotel, Makati City.
It was a lively and colorful affair attended by guest of honor Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Milicent Cruz Paredes, Vice Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Papua New Guinea Ambassador Christian Anthony Virhuri, Philippine government officials, members of the diplomatic and consular corps, the Philippine business community, and the Singaporean community in the Philippines.
In her speech, Singapore Ambassador Kok Li Peng credited the bravery and courage of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the people of Marawi City who have been fighting terrorism and extremism.
She also commended the hard work and diligence of the ASEAN National Organising Council in overseeing for the Philippines’ chairmanship of the ASEAN on its 50th year. She congratulated the Council for the recently concluded Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, which produced a substantial Joint Communiqué addressing the challenges today.
As part of festivities celebrating Singapore’s 52nd anniversary, guests took photographs with the Happy Birthday Singapore wall decor and an electronic backdrop featuring iconic Singapore landmarks, and were awed by the Supertree Grove diorama. Photos by Bening Batuigas
