PULP live world & 28 black energy driNKS present: Il Divo at Meralco
MANILA, Philippines - April 6 will forever be remembered by the country’s operatic pop fans as the Manila stop of the IL DIVO Amor & Pasion World Tour 2016 when the four magical voices converged at the Meralco Theatre. They were clearly classical singers doing pop and opera classics with the strut of contemporary crooners such as Micheal Buble and Harry Connick Jr. The dexterity of the quartet was exceptional and extremely well-applauded.
The four gentlemen Urs Buhler, Carlos Marin, Sebastien Izambard, and David Miller all hail from different parts of the globe – Switzerland, Spain, France and the United States, respectively. Amor and Pasion’s distinct adaptation of Spanish, Cuban, Argentinian and Mexican flavors? exemplifies how the quartet has come a long way from releasing their first record back in 2004?. Since then, they have broken album sales records globally.
The Meralco Theater proved to be an intimate and appropriate venue with its splendid and impressive acoustics. ?Together with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Gerard Salonga, the show operated on an intricate production design with dancers, numerous stage levels and many wardrobe changes. With about 28-29 songs on the set list, they performed for nearly three hours, with a brief intermission in between. It was indeed an excellent musical experience. Huge favorites included “Besame Mucho,” “New York, New York,” “My Way,” “Somewhere” and “Nessun Dorma,” among many other big hits like the Leonard Cohen original and Jeff Buckley-popularized “Hallelujah” and Evita’s “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina.” ?Indeed, the wonderful and powerful voices of Il Divo stood out.
