Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Public elementary schools nationwide will implement the mobile learning program Text2Teach by 2016.

The Department of Education (DepEd) will undertake the project in collaboration with the Ayala Foundation.

The Ayala Foundation signed a memorandum of agreement with the DepEd, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP), Microsoft and Globe Telecom for the mainstreaming of Text2Teach in all 38,000 public schools nationwide.

It will hold capability-building training sessions for all 203 local DepEd divisions.

The DepEd will then train teachers to implement the Text2Teach program.

Text2Teach will also have all its materials and content available for teachers through DepEd’s Learning Resource Management and Development System (LRMDS) portal.

Videos, teaching guides and other Text2Teach materials will be made available online as supplemental guides for teachers.

Globe Telecom has been implementing the program since 2003. It uses more than 300 educational video materials on Math, Science, English and Values Education.

The project aims to further improve the quality of education of Grades 5 and 6 pupils in Math, Science, English and Values Education, especially those in remote communities.

The DILG will share the program with local governments, while ULAP will hold advocacy workshops to highlight the benefits of program.

To date, Text2Teach has served over 300,000 students from 1,103 schools nationwide.

At least 1,054 Text2Teach programs are now in schools nationwide. Globe aims to add 1,407 more schools by yearend.
