Literature teachers’ workshop slated at MSU-Iligan
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Center of International Poets, Playwrights, Essayists, Novelists (PEN), in partnership with Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology, will hold a literature teachers’ training workshop focusing on 21st-century literatures from the Philippines on Sept. 4-5 at MSU-IIT in Iligan City.
National Artist for Literature F. Sionil José will deliver the keynote address. Resource speakers and facilitators are Dr. Christine Godinez Ortega, who will talk about local resource materials and publications; Dr. Jaime An Lim, who will discuss teaching 21st-century Philippine poetry; and Prof. Ricardo de Ungria, who will tackle teaching creative writing.
As part of the program, a writers’ forum will feature award-winning Mindanao-based intellectuals and writers — Steven Patrick Fernandez, German Gervacio, Anthony Tan and Jude Ortega — who will read their work and talk about “Writing to Sustain our Home, our Habitat.”
The workshop, which is part of the PEN Civil Society Programme, is supported by PEN International, Clifford Chance Foundation and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
Registration is free but slots are limited. Participants will get workshop materials and a certificate of participation, but they will have to take care of their own travel arrangements, accommodation and meals.
