Help reform justice system, Koko tells students

Paolo Romero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III has challenged law graduates to help reform the country’s justice system.

Pimentel made the call in his message before graduates of the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law in Diliman where he was also conferred an honorary Doctorate of Laws degree.

The senator graduated from the UP law school in 1990 and topped the Bar examinations that same year.

He challenged UP law graduates to be faithful to the Lawyer’s Oath and to “do the right thing” amid the temptations brought about by “money, influence and power of the privileged sector of our society.”

He said that as “Iskolar ng Bayan” (Scholars of the People), UP Law’s new graduates “are expected to repay the Filipino people’s generosity and support by aligning your work as a lawyer and your life as a citizen of this Republic towards the goals and aspirations of the Filipino People.”
